even the manga series took this approach--there are two separate comics covering the first 2 novels. the anime takes the title from the second novel, but otherwise does its best to smush both together

from what i've heard the upcoming 3rd book is also a wild genre shift from the first 2. so it's very possible that folks who liked the first 13 eps will say, "wait this sucks!" lol

i think it's the best case scenario rather than getting an adaptation of 1 book and maybe not the other. that said, it really pays off later when you can see the whole picture, vs the beginning where it's setting up all the pieces

it's tricky b/c the series adapts 2 books that take place in parallel rather than doing one in its entirety, than the other. it also (as far as i know) didn't advertise itself as such....

watched planet of the apes again w/ family tonight. everybody knows the ending, but my favorite part of it is that charlton heston’s character (a cynical asshole) just crumples like a piece of paper when he figures it out

If I had a nickel for every time an anime about koalas got made in 1984, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

With this review I've now covered every series that Masami Kurumada ever made for Weekly Shonen Jump. (Sukeban Arashi, RnK, FnK, Otoko Zaka, Saint Seiya, & Sho)
The most iconic era of Kurumada's career is now fully reviewed in English, which is truly an accomplishment... of some sort. #Kurumada50

Huh, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a movie dribble so many balls and sink every shot.
I’m frankly amazed that The First Slam Dunk works so well as a standalone film, an adaptation, and expansion of the manga’s story.
There’s a reason Inoue’s the best to ever do it
