I used to be in the SDNY Bankruptcy Court pretty often. It was a while ago, though after the Golden Age when the official language there was said to be Yiddish. Anyway, if the judges there now are like the ones I was in front of, if Giuliani's outbursts achieve anything, it won't be good.

If Trump loses, 10 bucks says the litigation to overturn the result will claim irregularities in the Dem nomination process (even if Biden is the nominee). It’ll be frivolous, but whatever. Before the election, it’ll be an article of MAGA faith that the Dem nominee is illegitimate.

With authoritarians, I think it becomes worse. Not just “Trump is immune,” but “if you’re in the SA, you can beat people up & burn their property with impunity.” And I think you’re right that access to that in-group appeals greatly to a lot of people.

I think so, which is one reason I agree with Akiva’s general point about limited government. If you have rules that you enforce only against some people, it’s a big problem. Which isn’t to say that, because the criminal justice system is racist, we should get rid of *all* criminal laws.

As a Dutch supporter, what I remember is the widespread disgust expressed in Dutch media and in fan-on-the-street interviews. Losing to Spain was no disgrace. But playing the way they did was.
