Now, you could make the point that all movies have conflict, and conflict could be considered a type of violence, but I don’t think that argument holds water, as the concept of conflict doesn’t have to be violent (I’m thinking of the conflict in Pride and Prejudice specifically)

In The Holdovers, violence ultimately takes away loved ones, like Mary Lamb’s son and Angus’s father. It’s not the main story, but it is part of the fabric of these characters.

For Past Lives, I think an argument can be made for the violence of separation. It felt like a late in life processing of being torn away from the culture you were born in, though I admit that since this isn’t my context, I defer to others.

American Fiction deals with the suspected violence, the belief of a false narrative, when the real violence is often found in the home. Potentially you could view it as a study in the violence against one’s self.

Poor Things and Barbie are a bit more subtle, but deal with the violence against women, including the violence within toxic masculinity and the desire to keep women in specific contexts.

Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon are the most direct of the meditation on violence, as we dive into violent actions taken against a people group, and the face behind the violence. Zone of Interest falls in this category as well.

Happy Oscars! As of today, I've seen all the Oscar Nominated Best Picture Films I had a realization - all the nominated Oscar films for best picture are a meditation on violence, to some degree. (With the exception of Maestro.)
