My latest for @pastemagazine.bsky.social is on a dozen third-party exclusives on the Wii that deserve a second chance in the present. These games faltered for one reason or another, but they're all worth experiencing!

Nowhere near as much as Wii Sports was. And it’s not the Switch’e only pack-in bundled game. In fact, I’d wager the majority of Switch systems sold are non-bundled. MK8 is truly a juggernaut.

For the record, Mighty No 9 attempted to release on 10 platforms too but wasn't able to do 3DS and Vita, so only 8 versions exist. And Ratatouille's different versions were all handled by 4 separate studios.

Shouts to the Ratatouille game for somehow touching every major console of the 2000's! GBA, DS, GameCube, and Wii! PS2, PSP, and PS3! Xbox, and Xbox 360! I don't think any other game has had quite the spread of simultaneous releases! If it had Mac, iOS, N-Gage, and Zeebo it would've had it all!

Yeah there were some dimes in there Qix Neo, Starfigher Sanvein, Mobile Light Force. But those Spec-Ops games sold millions I think, and they were apparently all hot garbage. Shovelware comes for us all, is all I'm trying to say.

Did you forget Spec-Ops, Hooter's Racing, and other $10 games they released near the end? There was a ton of junk on PS1 as well. Not as much as the Switch e-shop, but it was there!

Top 10 Switch games total ~311.27 million which is about 1/4th of the 1.24 billion total Top 10 PS1 games total ~83.95 million which isn't even a 10th of the total (Unless old numbers are off) Seems like PS1 had near-billion sales solely on variety, Switch is just Nintendo themselves crushing it.

In its lifetime, PS1 software sales were 962 million with best seller Gran Turismo (just ahead of FF7) at 10.8 million Nintendo Switch however, so far 1.24 billion software sales with best seller Mario Kart 8 at ~62 million Seems like a far greater variety of games sold on PS1
