thank you!!! It's been beyond exhausting. We've been traveling for 30 hours (!!) on 3 flights. But only the Dallas flight was awful. The others were fine. We are home, thank goodness

We've traveled for over 24 hours with three planes and the problem was only with American Airlines and only at DFW (again, we called them in advance to double-check everything). Beyond everything else, this is not ADA-compliant and not legal. We're all beyond exhausted now.

I almost never talk about Mati's disability on social media at this point, primarily for reasons of his informed consent and his privacy, but I want my community to know what it's like for our family to navigate this world as three disabled people (two adults, one teen) who want to go places.

Finally, at the GATE, an American Airlines agent attempted to deny us early boarding (which we need, and which we requested). Basis of denial of early boarding: he is not a wheelchair user. To reiterate, Mati is disabled, eligible for early boarding, we called in advance to double-check and confirm

We were in Dallas Fort Worth airport for nine hours as flights kept getting delayed and our gate of departure moved 7 times (I kid you not, 7 times) as they kept shifting the gates and we had to shlep from one end of the airport to another. The airport was in complete chaos.

I should not have to loudly disclose my teen's disability in a crowd to multiple agents who knew nothing, could find no nothing, when we have accommodations *on file*. In addition to lack of access, Mati is also very self-conscious about his disability and this is bad for his mental health.

This resulted in holding up the line, which also resulted in agents getting frustrated - this is a developmentally disabled kid who cannot say anything at all in stressful situations and has accommodations on file! At multiple times I had to loudly explain about his disability. It was very taxing

In the end, we were directed to a quieter area of the airport which did have a slower process, but because it was a massive airport with massive rapidly moving lines, this resulted in Mati getting separated. He got stuck in the scanning machine as he did not lift his arms up straight enough.

At Dallas Fort Worth, we were told at the security checkpoint that there was no way we could accommodate our request for a calmer and slower security process (even though we called), and the only thing they could do is a wheelchair. Which we did not need.

We had the misfortune of traveling home from SFRA with American Airlines via Dallas Fort Worth. Mati is not able to go through security unassisted and needs additional time at boarding, our presence with him always, and calm explanations from agents. We have been requesting accommodations.
