another question for you good people who teach English major undergrads -- tell me if you think they don't know what "chutzpah" means? I want to assume they're familiar with this word, but maybe I'm wrong? (I know many of them have it!)

this is not uniformly true but part of this is the incommensurable value systems of "it's good to do something that you love" vs. "it's good to do something that's remunerative" vs. "it's good to something easy (or hard)" vs. "it's good to do something ethically good"

Two weeks ago, I found out my position at St. Norbert College had been eliminated due to budget cuts: one of 21 faculty positions (13 in the humanities) eliminated at the college so far this year. I was under tenure review, and now I'm not. I have until May, and then my contract will be done.
