I like animations for teaching. Here is an example, the animation of a convolution, in this example a (better to avoid) running mean of a length of five with zero padding.

A biologist from the National Museums of Kenya joint us on an expedition to the Suguta Valley in Kenya. The biologist started to count the flamingos 🦩 on a lake, while I immediately thought about doing this automatically with a little MATLAB script:

Artificial neural networks (#ANNs) are widely used in the geosciences. There are numerous convenient tools in #MATLAB to get started, but the examples used in the tutorials are usually very complex. Here is a very simple MATLAB example:

The Commudity tab of the #MathWorks website now offers the new AI Chat Playground. This allows you to transfer #MATLAB programming tasks to an #AI and try the solutions out directly. This is a a great tool–and I'm sure my students already found it 😇

Computers do not work with real numbers, of which there are infinitely many, but with a finite number of #floating point numbers. Everything we calculate with a computer may therefore have a finite accuracy. Here are some #MATLAB examples:
