A flaw in many dystopias where the elite is corporate! If everyone else is horrible poor masses, nobody is buying anything. (Bc corps are essentially parasitic on larger society, the "megacorp runs the world" model has some flaws)

Twist: Everyone is poor because the corporate-owned government mandates that each person purchases a specific quota of consumer goods they don't actually need.

True. In a perfectly dystopian world, people would work awful jobs, barely earn enough to survive, then be tempted/encouraged to buy stuff on credit with ruinous interest rates. Thus tying them to their awful jobs for life & ensuring the profits of their employers, sellers & lenders. Oh, wait...
