I was a New Atheist for, like, 5 months. They had way too much emphasis on being a smug asshole for my taste lol I do think "religion" is a useful category to describe that set of spiritual beliefs, but you're right; New Atheists use "religion" when they mean "Christianity" without differentiating

Like I am atheist in the "I don't believe in any particular set of gods" sense, cause like, how would I know? lol But New Atheists have more of a "I do not believe in any gods because I KNOW FOR SURE that CHRISTIANITY IS WRONG" to the point that they are nudging on up to a religion of their own lol
