Yeah that seemed like a very strategic add in the opinion didn't it?

If you have deeper pockets it's less of a gamble but if you a start up or smaller company it could wreck your budget and planning. That's why I said, sane companies want some kind of stability. Everyone has complaints and wishes that some things were looser but at least you know what to expect.

I think this is going to be devasting to smaller companies. What if a new reg comes up, do you start early to comply so you can manage $/time or wait to see if the courts undo it? Then you "wasted" $ and your competitors didn't. What if it gets upheld? Now we need to spend more $$$ to rush to comply

Painfully. I think this is going to backfire on corporations, this can lead to a lot of chaos - having guardrails is actually helpful. Now they face an uncertain regulatory environment. Sane corporations also want stability.

I don't think people fully appreciate how vaguely written a lot of laws are. It's not uncommon for them to articulate basic concepts of what they are for and who is responsible for enforcement and leave the details to the Executive agencies. It's basically open season on a ton of regulations.

I've always been under the belief that locking up the merchandise was more about reducing the number of staff on the floor than anything and therefore overhead. It seems like others experience align with that.

OK, yeah bagels used to be - bagel shaped bread in the Bay. Now there are pretty good bagels in most cities. I more so consider the NYT article to be saying "hey California isn't a bagel wasteland anymore".

Yup, that timing checks out about the same time I was in college. Foodie mecca might be a stretch but there are some well established foodie pockets lol. Of course it got better after I left.

The DOJ seems to be really angsting that it would ruin the company and therefore the US aviation industry. That should not be a defense, if anything that indicates that they should be considering how to breakup Boeing and restore competition.

The good bagel scene is fairly new in the bay, I would say it started to peak about 5-6 years ago. If your experience is much older than that then it's not representative of the newer places.

I no longer live in East Bay anymore but Berkeley/Oakland has quite a few: Sal's Deli, Beauty's/Wise son's (owned by the same people), Poppy's, and Bageltopia. There is a new one in Albany (CA not NY) called Hella Bagel I haven't tried yet but will next time I am visiting.

There are 2 famous Montreal bagel places: Fairmont and St. Viatuer. I am curious which. There are 2 famous Montreal bagel places: Fairmont and St. Viatuer. When I went we got a dozen perfectly cooked and just out of the oven bagels at midnight, it was great.

I indicated this in another reply but I did intentionally pick that article to troll people a bit. The more important point was that the bagel scene has vastly improved and a fair number of towns in the bay now actually good bagels now. I still defend my Montreal style bagel opinion though.

It might not be very accurate to refer to Napa as suburbs but trying to illustrate that its percolating out to small cities by using a name people know. Anyway I mostly pulled that NYT article because I did want to clown people a little bit. Bagels go hard in NYC in a way they will never in CA.

This is mostly true and the bay will never have the saturation NYC has but... "hunting down a good bagel" is becoming less of a thing. More places are popping up, Berkeley has almost 1 per hood. SF has quite a few. Artisan Bagel places are popping up in the suburbs too - Napa has 2 I know of

Unpopular opinion: Montreal bagels are better than NY style and in Montreal you can get fresh wood fired bagels till midnight.

Even more unpopular opinion: the Bay Area has quite a few bagel places that even NYers consider to be quite good. www.nytimes.com/2021/03/08/d...

OK I am really struggling here to find any logic. Aside from the bad question (at least 3 Questions in 1), they implying that an opinion poll from about 1000 respondents is evidence of the number of deaths attributable to the COVID vaccine? They don't even show a number they purport to be the deaths

For news editors this is a match made in heaven. Elon articles get like 5-10x more comments than a lot of stuff and its WWDC so Apple content goes gangbusters. Put them both together and... Well let's say I think some people probably got a little happy in their pants.

The comment that I responded to was specifically stated that if every celebration was like Folsom St Fair it would be a hell of a show. I added that SF pride has a specific area that celebrates that and provides a valuable education service. Ppl pearl clutch about pride all the time, its not new.

Ah that makes sense. I am originally from the SF Bay Area so I often notice the opposite - when places only have a monoculture present. Exposure to diversity or lack there of really does wire your brain in different ways.

Just let some toddlers have at it. They can fire off dozens of weird questions at the drop of a hat. Also, people search weird questions all the time just to see if there is something out there. It's not pubmed, not every search is purposeful.

In a way this is extremely funny in that SPD and the city government are getting outwitted by a man with a car. Other cities bust up whole sideshows and tow cars.

So the response to all these scenarios might be, "well I can look it up online" and you can and probably will buy having some knowledge of the matter let's you identify what you are trying to solve for and get the right tool online to help you solve that problem.

Statistics is a bit more challenging, though if I remember right not everyone takes stats. I would say that a basic level people should understand how likely something is to happen, it helps you evaluate risk.

This popped up on my feed and I'll take the risk... People do use high school math but framed in different way. Ppl use algebra all the time, it's basically taking a question and forming it into a math problem. Scaling a recipe, total cost of ingredients per meal and how it relates to your budget
