I enjoyed giving a talk today @ IUFRO World Forest Congress in Stockholm (#IUFRO2024) about our lab's research on climate-induced changes in forest plant communities along elevation gradients of the eastern US. Thanks! Some of the down-slope shifts of the lower range limits of the red spruce in NE US are likely due to the species returning to where it once was before logging hundred or so years ago.

Thanks! Not so much past land-use at the upper tree lines in NE US, although there was a lot of timber harvesting at lower elevations where temperate-boreal forest ecotone is.

🔔New paper🧪 Treelines in the U.S. Northeast shifted upslope by 3 m/decade on average w/climate warming. Treeline form, topography, & mesoclimate affected the magnitude of the shift! Kudos to Jordon Tourville for this PhD work at SUNY ESF w/Appalach. Mtn. Club!
