“An acoustic analysis revealed a high-pitch component in these solicitation purrs, resembling a cry. This hidden cry taps into our innate sensitivity to distress sounds, making it nearly impossible for us to ignore.”

Enriching the uranium would have been a guaranteed first prize. Or some sort of equally validating attention.
I just love this story also:

Some of the stuff this coalition is doing well be relatively easily undone. Some will be expensive and take thought.
But the signaling to society that "expertise doesn't matter" may take a generation to fully unwind.

Super good alt-text as well. Taking the trouble to say "bicorn" for example.

Long time since I was at university, but from the outside it looks like we now have institutions that are not good employers, don't care for student welfare, treat their primary mission of education as an inconvenience and are focused on consolidating administrative power.

There are some real burns against the university in this judgement. As they deserve.

"Associate Professor Wiles is due compensation for the unjustifiable
disadvantage she suffered and general damages for breach of contract. These awards
overlap, with general damages covering the full period and therefore encompassing
the distress caused by the unjustifiable disadvantage. "

Some research suggests I might have fallen for an urban myth with respect to animal fat in those shakes. But in this post-truth era I'm just going to double down and say if they don't actually use pig/chicken fat, they probably want to and in my opinion that thought-crime is just as bad.

Secondly - the fast food ones are disgusting. Being thick is not the only criteria. A shake made of depleted uranium is plenty thick. The fast food ones are made of the same base ingredient used to simulate the drool on this:

OK, two things. Firstly nobody in dairies buys the "milkshakes". They are just there to make those of us who buy the divine anointed thickshakes be able to pretend there's a mythical lower class of peasant who can't afford the premium experience.

Appreciate you supporting my family business though. When my Uncle Ronald dies I’ll be rich enough to buy BlueSky and sort all you heretics out.

Also those chicken fat constructs from fast food chains are thick but not thick shakes. Thickshakes come from dairies and you must personally witness the ice cream being scooped in.

I know people who describe their strategic voting as 5D chess. But they are actually still voting on the vibe like the rest of us.

One issue I see is that it requires careful analysis. I didn’t expect all four major candidates in my electorate would end up in Parliament.

Yes a good electorate MP might be helpful. One of the strengths of MMP is you might choose one good for the electorate even if they are not in your preferred party.
But in a situation where the Governing Coalition is fucking the whole country, a good local MP seems little consolation.

I'm listening to Rachel Maddow's podcast "Ultra". It details American fascism around WWII. There were plenty of home grown Nazis by all accounts, including those undermining war crimes trials. von Braun etc would have found plenty of people to make them welcome.

One situation that makes it difficult for people is that predatory lenders have ways of obscuring what you actually owe. That makes budgeting tricky to say the least. Once it becomes apparent, you are truly stuffed.

My 2010 iMac survived the Christchurch Eqs, was removed by crane from a 12th story window and was used by me for many years including running models overnight.
When I retired I had an SSD fitted and it's now used every day by my (nearly) 90 year old mother. Not sure who will last longer.
