Nothing we can really do to help, so we've just made a point of buying our produce directly from them.

It's 39Β° presently. Too hot even to swim. Just oppressive as soon as you step outside. The birds are silent. We've had a flock of 8 sheep visit the property the last three days. They hide under our shade trees panting, so we filled a kiddie pool for them to drink from. 7 day forecast is all mid 30s.

Might work if microdosing. If macrodosing, nope, I'll just stare profoundly at the carpet for a few hours.

We've been in Keremeos since the first, and it's getting unbearable. We're forced indoors to cower in the AC from 10am to 8pm. And yes, they're still out there working the fields and orchards. Not sure how. It's too much for me.

πππ ...actually, I didn't know there were no moose on the island! Surprised they haven't waded across at Seymour Narrows haha. Off-topic, but for some reason I am fascinated by Amor de Cosmos. I found his grave when I was in Victoria, and I've been meaning to write a piece about him.

There was a truck, and fifth-wheel stopped dead in my lane when I turned a corner. And a semi and car stopped the other direction. I thought it was an accident. I made a gesture to the truck driver, like 'what's up?', and he just pointed towards the pond π€£

It was a soggy day, but still, a few intrepid souls came out for the bee walk, which ended up being more of a bee-plant talk, as we didn't see any bees due to the rain. Big thanks to the great folks at the Kokanee Creek nature center for allowing us use of their theatre for the talk. #BCParks

Merlin is pretty good for birdsong/calls, but sometimes it's way off, so you have to be cautious with it. If you have pics, honestly, just putting it on iNat is the way to go. Birds will be identified by live humans in minutes. Plants take a bit longer, but human id's are always better than AI.

Great shots! We were just in the Monashees, and some of the Devil's Club had 2 inch diameter stalks and were taller than me. I'm 5'11"!

Our first two weeks on the road have been astounding. The birding has been amazing, up to 142 species on the year. And of course we have seen lots of bees too. Off to Kokanee Creek tomorrow, where the first of our three gigs this summer will happen on Sunday. Do drop by if you're able!

The nominal pillar at Pillar Lake Provincial Park, on the Falkland-Chase back road. The pillar is 28 meters tall, and the rock on top weighs 8 tonnes.
Thanks to @ibrooks.bsky.social for the tip. I somehow didn't know about this one despite living in the area for 25 years.
