I got the ugly duckling thing! I liked the names in general (eg her politics teacher Mr Jefferson & gym coach Clapp). I’m also for straight-up high-femme wish fulfilment - Laura Wood’s Agency for Scandal books are GREAT. I guess I enjoyed Twilight’s weirder gothic angles & wanted more of that?

You’re right about the central conflict being between her desires & his ethics, and how they lose the focus on that, so I see what you mean! I am going to check out the Agency for Scandal books, thank you
