Is this a 2K game or a yuri one-shot?

My complaint with Nichijou has always been that by being most scientifically flawless anime comedy ever made, it becomes an unrealistic standard by which I have to judge all other anime comedies

People also overlook how Ranni just tells you where to find her cursemark once she softens up to you. Not as a reward or a transaction, but because she knows you need it. She never even asks why, she just tries to be nice in her own awkward way!
Ranni's a total softie, it's why she's so guarded.

Anyway, to who write off Ranni discarding her run and Empyrean status as a desire for personal independence isn't just a willful misreading of what's said in the story, it's ignoring explicit events of the game.

It's important to see that Ranni doesn't replace Marika, nor does she remake the Elden Ring. Ranni never ascends to godhood, she cast aside her rune and her Empyrean flesh, because it's the only way to truly undo the Golden Order. ie βthe masterβs tools will never dismantle the masterβs houseβ

Yeah, Ranni's a wonderfully complex character, partly because of her selflessness. A key element of her story is Golden Order can't conceive of someone giving up power. As much as Ranni tries to present herself as a badass, she gives up literally everything to basically decolonize the Lands Between.

Yeah, honestly the Romanov metaphor even works here. Their order of execution was actually a miscommunication on the part of the Bolsheviks, but even if it was deliberate, who cares? They're royals soaked in blood, and them living would cause even more bloodshed.

Also worth noting that the entire reason "those who live in death" exist at all is because the Golden Order, being unable to accept that Godwyn was gone, buried an immortal corpse into the Erdtree. But since you can't reincarnate a body without a soul it malfunctions and starts producing Deathroot.

I also think it's interesting that Golden Order presents Godwyn's corpse not decomposing as him suffering. As if they can't accept that the body and soul are two separate things- which makes sense considering their goal of a world with absolute corporeal certainty. The immaterial has no place in it.

He also only made friends with said dragon after beating him. Regardless of the loyalty that came from that, it's a pretty asymmetrical situation.

Like, I'm sorry that a pretty blonde man died and his corpse won't decompose, but a dragon wanting to be his friend once doesn't somehow make him not a pivotal instrument of a blood-soaked theocracy.

And even if Ranni did target Godwyn, you can't "overturn the whole of it" without breaking a few eggs. And I mean, he's the heir to and champion of a genocidal empire. Hand wringing about Godwyn imo is like being upset about the Romanovs being killed. And the Golden Order's 1000x worse than any Tsar

I think Wind Waker also works because the aesthetic and tone are *so* cartoony. Like, the threat is serious and there's violence, but it does have the vibe of an animated kids adventure movie.

At least with Ocarina there's a thematic point to him being so young, and it gave us the wonderful, tragic follow up with Twilight Princess going "maybe it was bad to a child soldier." A shame the franchise didn't take that to heart afterwards.

I'd love to see the actual data on this because I'm convinced the "make the protag a teenage or younger boy" is just a hangup producers have, not the audience.

Maybe when my book's done I'll revisit Clockwork Empire, I think I have enough Zelda musing to add some more art to that again

Samus is an adult, Star Fox is an adult, Mario is a middle-aged small business owner- what made them go "y'know it makes more sense if Link is 10" in the late 90s?

I often wonder what goes into that decision, making your protagonist a kid in an otherwise adult-level-stakes situation. I assume part of it is "this is aimed at kids," but at least when I was a kid that never appealed to me. I feel like kids can imagine being adults killing monsters just fine.

I know my own Zelda preferences are not the mainstream ones, as I think the games actually work best when they're closer to dark fantasy like Zelda 2 or Twilight Princess, but at least with the Switch games they made Zelda and Link adults again. It just makes more sense!

Something I find charming about TotK is that it's the Zelda game with the oldest Link, who's at least in his mid-20s (plus a century).
Maybe it's a hot take, but aside from Wind Waker I've never gotten into Zeldas where Link is a little kid. He murders too many things for that to sit right

It's been 100 degrees in Portland and will continue to be so for several days. In the top floor of my very old building I have become a sort of comics-drawing lich that runs on iced coffee and vegan breakfast burritos.

They look great! I think extreme height differences end up creating a lot of neat opportunities like that for blocking. My main character is like 5'3" and her "best friend" is around 7 feet tall (I also tend to have the villains be comically big).

Partly because 2011 Sen apparently wanted to curse 2024 Sen with several irregularly-sized pages, I'm adding new art and panels to the story that I think are gonna look pretty neat!

We're like halfway through the second volume, give or take. I avoid giving estimates because while the story's outlined years in advance, I don't know how many pages something will take until I get there

Also more people should read Otherside Picnic. It's a remagining of Roadside Picnic (the novel Tarkovsky's Stalker is based on) that incorporates urban legends, starring two very lesbian college students.
There's a light novel, manga, & anime that are a good (imo the manga is the scariest).

The show is *fine*, but it probably doesn't help that I'm watching it after reading I'm in Love With the Villainess and Otherside Picnic, which imo are the gold standards of this new wave of speculative fiction GL series

So I'm watching "The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady" and while so far it's a lethally bland, paint-by-numbers yuri, I'm elated that yuri stories are now mainstream enough for mediocrity like this to exist.

No, actually! There will be three volumes of Dark Science and each volume will have three acts. I just fell out of the habit putting the act titles on the website because 3 or so years ago I made some big pacing changes with the plot.

So Dark Science vol 1 is looking to be about 150-ish pages, and will cover everything up to DS #102, plus bonus comics and new art. I'm very excited to announce more when I can!

Artists, do you have any drawing skill that only exists for a notably dorky reason?
For me, it's being able to draw detailed chains really fast because of how often I drew Spawn as a kid.
