the renewables-as-eyesore thing is such a sinister reflection of how the suburbs shield themselves and their property values from even the aesthetic consequences of the fossil fuels that maintain all of this. pumpjacks and gas flares are eyesores but I guess they don’t have those in Palm Springs.

A lot of people selling/buying the idea that bc kids are on their phones all the time you can just chain them to a screen that will teach them (what the superintendent calls “edutainment”) and then gut their schools with your morals still intact instead of making school fun, safe, and enriching.

Respectfully, he would “point to” his own ass to justify a decision, but if some kind of norms argument WERE enough to constrain SCOTUS, it applies regardless of a repeal attempt. Desuetude is about non-ENFORCEMENT, not a question of “have people heard of this statute.” Rpeal effort is a good thing.

Also probably goes without saying but it’s not as though the cops would listen if you said something like “I’m under a contract that says my firing is grieveable.” Most likely scenario would be having to sue after the fact if there was some violation of a contract or labor/employment law.

Absent it being a pretense for some illegal reason for the leave (e.g., protected class discrimination, violation of some state/local/federal law, etc.), it works the same way. The company says “you’re fired; get out” and if you don’t, suddenly you’re trespassing.

Yeah, I would guess they got a brief announcement, emails, or a mass email to serve as notice. And whether or not anything was legally sufficient, it seems the university was content to act and deal with any legal issues later on.

The only thing you have to do “knowingly” is enter/remain on the property (you don’t have to intend to trespass). This tactic is routinely used on public housing properties too. Ppl are put on ban lists for specious reasons and non-criminal acts, then their presence on the property becomes criminal.
