Apropos of a conversation I had today with a non-scientist:
Climate risks are not going to be isolated to the "usual" vulnerable places. Remember Hurricane Ida (which was my first hurricane evacuation from NOLA)?
It hit Louisiana as a cat 4, but caused more $ damage and deaths in NJ+NY+PA than LA

People will die.
Mostly vulnerable people.
Just as the fascists want it.
Exactly like Florida's COVID policy.
Consistency is actually a fascist trait. Brutal consistency.

The cw is based, in large part, on the generational transfer of wealth as aging/dying parents passed their wealth down to their children.
That has been happening to a far lesser degree with the Boomers, who are living longer and spending/hoarding inheritances.
Tl/dr; we're poorer at age now

So what?
They switched some big time, long term Con seats.
Who cares what the margin was?
You expect a large vote margin in an election that switches 100s of seats?
Explain that math(s)!!

In theory, politicians are chosen to represent their parties for president "by convention"
I'm okay with that. Let's see how Joe does up to the convention date, and if it's clear he's not up to it, let's have an actual convention.
Not ideal, but still better than appointing a God Emperor to run

The system is creaking because it's a more diverse landscape that is harder to track and call elections?

Thus is the UKs new PM.
22% Popularity.
Turns out they didn't so much vote FOR something as they voted AGAINST something worse.
C'mon, USA, we can do it!

We have too much coordination now, imo. Far too much.
Horse trading gets waaaay harder when you have more horses than can fit in your corral.
With technology, we can even approach direct democracy.
How can one person represent 758000 people. They can't. They can only represent monied interests

Cool, let's compromise at 1500, then.
The thing you fear about more reps is exactly what we have now (concentrated power at the top).
Now, let's do the senate.
(No way any state should have 2 senators and one rep.)

Why is doubling or tripling the number of representatives absurd?
Maintaining the status quo is what is absurd.
If it's never gonna happen, it's because of fealty to the status quo. Fear of change.
What would the founders say?
(Btw, RCV/PR is spread widely among the states, and growing)

British politics is so confusing..so Jesus is in the House of Commons. Okay. Fine.
His dad is in the House of Lords, surely.
The Holy Spirit?
Has it been excommunicated?
Decapitated, even?
Did England decapitate the Holy Fucking Spirit?
Out of boredom, perhaps?

The Cons told everyone in the UK they'd be taxed more for the rest of their lives and live under permanent socialism and got absolutely trounced.
Historically destroyed.
They must actually have free and fair elections there.
