I defer to OP since I'm not an academic, but terminal MAs can also fail to get you what you wanted. I've got one sitting in a drawer somewhere that hasn't helped me at all. On the upside, it only cost me 20 bucks and I'm a slightly more informed citizen

My point was indeed that tuition-generating terminal MAs *generally* fail to get folks what they want, unless it’s very specifically a credential like ones common in education or other certifications, in which case employers are often paying.
