My very first professional conference in the US was Aphra Behn. The first conference I ever ran was for the Behn & Burney Societies.
So this week my heart is in Canterbury, where so many people I love & respect are celebrating Aphra in a major, major way.

Yeah, I’m doing all this rigamarole to shift the disbursement responsibilities to an outside 501(c)3 entity that pays travel/etc up front, ahead of time. Several international grads & freelancers who can’t be asked to carry costs for half a year!

Right now what keeps me going is the small things I can do for others, which hopefully build on each other.
At the very least, they keep me from despair, which in my faith tradition is a grave moral condition.

The best way I've found to help stave off the despair of the world we live in is to find ways to get involved in local organizing. There is a food bank or a native plant gardeners group or an English conversation group at your library that would love your support and you'll meet people who care too
