Is this worse than paper degenerating? I bet 50% of all information produced will never be read again even if it was available

It's somewhat worse than paper because of the interconnected nature of the internet (e.g. images on Reddit are often hosted on different sites) and because there's often multiple people who can delete things (poster, site admin, maybe individual moderators) whereas a book stays a book.
