Absent the election, and the defendant, I feel like if I said "The former high ranking public official indicted on August 1, 2023 for obstruction, is not likely to be imprisoned, if convicted, before 2025" most lawyers would say "that sounds about right."
however, interesting to compare:
"If a former high-ranking public official was indicted in April 1973, when would he be imprisoned given Watergate-era courts and DoJ?"
We shouldn't just take for granted the current system as of this moment
Indeed, if we totally flipped it, and I was the one saying "Oh, we can and MUST get Public Official X tried, convicted, and jailed inside of 15 months," most people would say "Pfft, do you even trial, bro?"
