I was crushed when Wunderground died. Their hyper local forecasts used to be so good. Now it seems to average too much which is useless when you live in mountains and elevation is critical. I recently started using Meteored, it's good.

I hate that websites (especially social media) on desktops look like mobile. You have the space, use it. You can be mobile friendly AND desktop friendly, but not at the same time. Use the strengths of each where applicable.

My hummers would love it. They are devious and territorial :D Often they (especially the ornery male Anna's) perches on the end of a nearby dead branch. Sometimes he or the females hide in the branches and pounce when another tries to feed.

I was sitting outside enjoying twilight - especially since I felt slightly cool. I glanced at the thermometer & it's still 81F. I cannot wait until next week when the highs are supposed to in the mid 80s. Unrelated.. but here's a photo I took when it was 10 below. 😀

Still a rookie. 😉 To level up you need a portable scanner with battery power to use when you lose power for an extended period, the only cell tower near you runs out of generator juice, and/or the station that digitizes the broadcast loses power. Bonus if you by a dynamo battery charger.

Simplify. When I moved I did a BIG purge. It was so cathartic, I let go of so many things. But I've lived here for about 6 years & it's time for another Big Purge & Reorganization Project. I bought shelving for the garage, and nicer bookshelves for my office. I said it... now I need to do it! 😬

This is sad. And I don't understand why they'd do this in July. Also "And helicopters serving as air ambulances ... are often grounded when liftoff becomes difficult in warmer air, which spreads molecules that favor wider wings or blades and herculean thrust." is bizarre. AI without human editor?

That wouldn't surprise me. They have amazing teamwork, and they spread out - even if a hunter shot one or two, the rest would be on him before he could get them all. I'd actually put the hunter last on this list. Especially since they don't specify how much ammo is available.

Rats are my first pick. Next up is a tie between the hawks, bears, wolves, buffalo, and lions. I like the idea of something massive and strong, but I think I'll go with the air attack and hawks. All they need to do is pluck out eyeballs.

Not having the extreme winds was so lucky! I'm glad they're working hard getting it contained quickly. I've lived in or been connected to the Sierras my whole life, but only came near evacuating twice. Some fire is good, massive infernos not so much. ☹️ I'm curious what started it too.

This is such an amazing firefighting success story that needs to be celebrated.
This easily could have been like the Camp Fire. There will be losses, but the town was saved by hard work and technology (night flying helicopters) it's not out yet, of course - #FrenchFire share.watchduty.org/i/24427

I love finding cute little places like this! Not just German, but any heritage. I think some are a deliberate choice - Amana Colonies, Solvang, etc that want to keep their heritage. Some unfortunately have roots in racism - like Chinatowns, Locke, CA, etc.

I went and watched the time lapse of the webcam by the Oakland Coliseum. Goodness! It was pretty, but I'm so glad I don't live there. People spent a lot of money on fireworks.

Yep, especially with this heat and winds. The county north cancelled their big show, ours is tomorrow, at a reservoir. There are always spot fires from that, but they launch over the lake, which helps. The county south has a rapidly growing fire that broke out late afternoon. 🙄
