Quincy Jones's "Chump Change" for the game show "Now You See It." They did a really good job matching the opening spiel to the music. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qdg...

Have you played the Jaws pinball machine? That's the tilt warning sound/video, which is genius.

Hmm... all evidence seems to be that the only pop-cultural artifacts that survived the Eugenics Wars (and all that other stuff) were things Paramount could get the rights to. It's entirely possible that they only know it from the song "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" by Meco.

Looking at this photo 10 years after I took it, I wish I'd used a better background - the brown of the Cadbury Flake bar seems to blend in too much with the brown of the table.

If you're American, it helps to learn what a "99" is (ice cream cone with a Cadbury Flake crumbly chocolate bar sticking out of the top).

Same here, although I do still try to buy interesting commemorative stamps rather than whatever the post office clerk has on the top of the pile. But I'm not getting any new stamps until I work my way through the train station ones I bought a couple years ago!

The whole time I was watching that movie, though, I was distracted by thinking, "I _swear_ the song 'The Show' is newer than 2002," but I wasn't going to pull out my phone in a theater to check. (Turns out it's actually from 2008!)

My father is longtime friends with Bruce Dickinson, the reissue producer of numerous Blue Oyster Cult best-of compilations for Columbia Records, which led to his name being used in the "More Cowbell" sketch.

"Having My Baby" by Paul Anka - my birth was arguably the greatest thing to happen in 1974, but this song hitting #1 was definitely the worst.

I've had the book in which this appears for about 35 years and have always wondered about "In Color, Daily and Sunday" (because I didn't realize any newspapers were colorizing their daily strips as early as 1951).

I saw "There's Something About Mary" in the theater, heard this song in one scene, realized I really liked it (but had forgotten about it in the previous 10 years), and went to a record store on my way home to see if they had the soundtrack album and if this song was on it. Yes and yes!

Rays TV announcers had this conversation about the Marlins pitcher: "He's from Lima, Peru, but he went to high school here, in Parkland." "Parkland - Stoneman Douglas. That's one of the Florida high schools that's really known for baseball." Yes. It's really known for baseball.
