Really excited about this paper! New, larger samples have made it possible to show that there is a statistically very significant correlation between bars and AGN in the local galaxy population. And stronger bars are more likely to host AGN. @izgarland.bsky.social led this excellent work! π§ͺπ

Yes! It's so cool (and quite under-rated in the wider public still.) The data it produces isn't as immediately shiny as e.g. Hubble data is, but it is huuuugely useful and revolutionary in its own way

GaiaNIR is suuuuuch a cool potential mission! Would take the number of known stars in the Milky Way with accurate astrometry from ~1% to ~10% of the galaxy

It's a lesson in what not to book in the future π I think their booking.com review score is probably gamed to be honest, looking on other sites it is MUCH lower. I am never trusting booking.com again and had to learn that the hard way π

I think it's an amazing way to improve onboarding here, it's better than anything I thought up myself when I said a couple of months ago that the app needs better onboarding. It's really awesome!

Ok, starter packs are SERIOUSLY cool. I am so happy with this feature! Thank you, @bsky.app!
Here's my v1 Astronomy starter pack: go.bsky.app/KfuFR5s
(N.B: when I'm back from holiday I'll make the list of included accounts more equitable, for now it's just people who I can remember post a lot)

This is really, really cool!!!
I think being able to give people a starter pack is a great way to make onboarding easier. Thank you Bluesky team!
I think I'm going to put a starter pack link at the end of every talk I do from here on out, and I encourage others in scisky to do the same π

Ooooh this looks really interesting! The Apollo 13 film is one of my favourite bits of space media ever, I hope this docu is good.
While you wait, there's this Apollo 11 documovie from 2019 - it's reaaaally good, the footage they got for it and remastered is amazing.
