I was in the BK on Queen St years ago, in queue behind a chap getting a homeless guy the exact same dinner he bought himself - icecream and all - and the homeless guy couldn't believe it. Dude treated him like a friend he was buying lunch, real down to earth and kind. It was so nice.

Ours did install enough insulation to meet the Healthy Homes requirements, but didn't install a heatpump because we have a fire (which meets the requirement of a heating source). I can afford power (or firewood) but I still wish we could have a heat pump.

I pick mine up and baby them in my arms and sing little songs and they hang out and purr wildly about it. If I'm belting out in the kitchen Mango will hang on the climber and interject yells like he's a backing vocalist ala Yoko Ono.

Tigra used to do this on the garage roof. She'd get up there via hedge/tree but couldn't get down that way. Would sit on the roof howling mournfully until I got the ladder out. Fortunately after the fourth time she stopped going up there. Silly idiot. 💛

My old girl used to Visibly Sulk at me afterwards. Had to sit within my line of sight but would stare at me grumpily the whole time. Usually lasted until bedtime when she'd grudgingly forgive me so that she could get on the bed and snuggle 😂

The research shows that real name policies do not make social media better. Sometimes they make it more vicious. Overwhelmingly the "best" experience is had in environments where anonymity is allowed. (I will try to find citations!)

I have two heated blankets, one in my office, and regularly get cats enquiring when I plan to leave my chair that they may sit upon the warms. Sometimes a small head will attempt to squish itself into the small of my back in hopes I will get up immediately and leave it for them. Little shits ❤️❤️

This evening I piled the heated blanket on the footstool, turned it off and went to do something. Bonnie was delighted.

I had a cat who would carefully dig a hole, poop atop the pile, scratch confusedly yet enthusiastically around the base of the poop pyramid, then wander off leaving his poop enshrined upon the pedestal. It was funny as hell but quite frustrating.

I have found surprising utility for "WHICH ONE OF YOU FUCKS WAS THAT" because Mango inevitably replies and based on "meow!!" (indignant, what's your problem) or "mroww!!" (indignant, HOW DID YOU KNOW) I know which cat to pursue further. I love the furry little idiots so much. 💛💛💛

I laughed so hard at this that Bonnie (currently resident in my lap) got up, looked at me with deep offense, turned around, and attempted to sit hard enough on my stomach that it would stop wobbling.

There's a local library that's set up a good old fashioned pen pal setup with a sister city overseas. The library handles the postage, so individual privacy is still possible, and you get paired up with a random from the library at the other end. I think it's SUPER cool.

I work in cybersecurity rather than T&S and non-tech people really don't understand that it's business. BIG business. Exploitative in some settings, purely commercial in others... But business, nonetheless. (Heck, a lot of tech people don't get it.)

My Mango screams basically every time he breathes. I think it's an alarm that he wants to share, going off because his skull is otherwise entirely empty. We love him, except at night when he's wandering around yelling because he got out of bed for a snack and forgot where we are.

One of the nicest things my mum did for Kid Me was address situations with "do you just want to complain, do you want help to fix the issue, or do you want me to fix the issue for you?" (Age appropriately, depending on the issue.) I never knew how valuable that was until I hit adulthood.

I've given up and just sew all my shirts closed thru the cursed spot. (I only buy shirts with slight stretch so I can handle the loss of button ability). I know I could pay for tailoring but my gods it's expensive enough to live already.

My daily driver pan is the 30cm wood handled Simon Gault one from Briscoes. I've had it for 5+ years now - it goes on sale for $40 or $50 regularly.
Holds seasoning well, handle can be removed to reseason. I use it more than my (smaller) Le Creuset.

I had one that chose to enliven winter evenings by sleeping atop my head. I am a side sleeper and it was like wearing a very heavy fuzzy vibrating hat. Attempts to move were frowned upon by her ladyship. The number of times I woke up with a sore neck...

We acquired a tortie last year because the rescue said she'd be a good friend to our big dumb loud orange, who was bereft when my 13yo heart cat died of cancer. My goodness she is the sassiest, tortiest, grompiest little asshat. I love her. And she loves the Mango, thankfully, and he's besotted.

My resident orange just worked out that if he bunts the treat jar while I'm holding it, more fall out. I'm not sure if that's a happy accident or intentional use of braincell but he's DELIGHTED with his new party trick.

In my teens my grandmother realised I made better muffins than hers. She sulked about it for several hours, which fortunately I found very funny rather than insulting. She cheered up only when she was reminded that no-one in the family could make scones like hers. (I can, these days. Miss you Nana!)

I gave my very old Brother laser to a friend, her kids have reliably attempted to massacre it and failed. I replaced it with a colour Brother laser and it just does anything I ask of it very happily and reliably and I will only part with it if it catches fire.

One of mine worked out the connection between the Tube of Painkiller Goop and "eating works!" (she was pending dentistry). She would accept The Tube (despite her general refusal to countenance ANY medication, EVER) and then sat by her food dish waiting for pain relief to kick in. Poor wee sausage.

One of mine loves to be picked up normal cat styles. The other won't tolerate a normal hold but adores being cuddled upside down like a baby. Weird little critters, they're the best.

I had a pair who worked together. One would distract me with cuteness while the other filched the contents of my sandwich, or the cheese from the bench, &c; once the heist was complete the thief would signal the one on cute duty to come share the booty. Little shits. ❤️

Okay. So. We know the rats are dead and gone, because now we have mice. Ironically, the mouse I found in the cupboard under the sink (thanks to lady Bonnie trying to get in it)... ... had broken into the packet of rat and mouse bait for a snack. So I don't think we will have long term issues.
