That's a great way of looking at it, it's all over the place in terms of quality, but it's also cool to see how many possible ways there are to interpret the very idea of Double Dragon
I'm always kind of surprised to see it stick around, but I welcome it nonetheless!

I forgot they were bringing back Rage of the Dragons, hopefully that hasn't fallen through because its been a few years since they announced it at this point, I think
More consistent DD games would definitely help inspire confidence, Gaiden looked like it turned out well from what I saw at least

Mace: The Dark Age has extremely violent fatalities and keeps track of your defeated opponents via decapitated heads impaled on spikes
A screen warning you of "life-like violence" is also the first thing you see when you boot it up

The way Microsoft names things makes my eyes bleed and roll into the back of my skull, but I gotta admit, there's something very funny about naming a service "Xbox Game Pass Core" and then making it so it doesn't technically have the thing it's named after

You know a game's soundtrack is just absolutely popping off when this is the track they use for a level that's mostly about watching a rabbit slowly walk through a train

New blog post time!
This week's game is Rescue Shot, a light gun game about protecting a rabbit as they get into all kinds of trouble alongside some of the best PS1 music you've ever heard. You wouldn't think a game like this would benefit from a lot of storytelling, but this one sure as heck does!

Nice, if you two can play it in co-op you should! Konami really did have quite a great run on the PS1, even moreso when you find the games they didn't release in every region!
Gungage is one I definitely need to check out sometime, it seems really cool

It's very much worth playing! It does some interesting things mechanically, too, like making upgrades and healing feed off the same resource
Feels like what the PS1 Contras should have been, especially since it's Konami developed

Me too, it still looks so good and captures the tone of the anime it's based on perfectly! I'm always game for more indie run and guns and I agree that this style could still really work for them, kinda like how it did for Alien Hominid

It's really fun, definitely recommend trying it!
I've been playing a lot of Japanese-only PS1 games for review purposes (not my blog but elsewhere) and I've been astounded by the number of times I boot something up and it feels like a completely unique experience that hasn't been revisited since

Yeah, it starts off on a bad foot because you have to find items to upgrade your speed and weapons to not feel completely pathetic, but once you do, it's really fun!
The price is really unfortunate, yeah, especially since this was supposedly a budget release when it first came out

The PS1 Cyborg Kuro-chan game is cool because the weapons permanently transform when you upgrade them, so it's not just more/stronger projectiles or whatever
For instance, a Molotov cocktail eventually becomes a massive bazooka and a revolver turns into a big shotgun

41. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero
An excellent cast of characters, possibly Falcom's best soundtrack ever, and a densely detailed setting make every single one of the series' strengths shine through. My plan is to do one of these a year, but this game is making me want to break that rule!

Old blog post time!
Let's look back at Armalyte, a shoot 'em up that's considered a masterpiece on the Commodore 64. However, I played the Amiga version, so I got a very different experience, oops! Despite that, I came away thinking that it was a cool but brutally difficult game:

It's not mentioned in the video, but I like the way you think because it's one of the best examples of games people should try again because it actually rules

I've seen way too little Game Center CX in my life, so I'll have to check out that episode!
I like when games aren't afraid to mess with you, so that sounds like something I'll enjoy when I attempt to actually finish it

It's like a fighting game where every weapon fits someone and can lead to all kinds of player expression, it really is incredibly well done!
Every weapon I've dabbled with I've enjoyed, though nothing hits like the Switch Axe. I would like to learn Charge Blade though because it seems super cool!

They're great games for sure and there are so many interesting ones! Like you, I had to learn to love them and I think that was because I wasn't a PC gamer at all and was mostly a console RPG guy
Thankfully, friends always wanting to play Halo eventually got me to understand the appeal

Twin Snakes and MGS4 are fascinating places to start, I have a lot of affection for those but the latter especially would hit a lot weirder without the context of previous games!
MGSV plays fantastically, so I can see how that might get you in the right headspace to give the older ones a fair shot

Monster Hunter is the perfect example of this kind of thing, it really doesn't make it easy to get but it's so extremely worth the effort!
I tried it on PSP and didn't get it at all, but later gave 4 Ultimate a shot and fell in love thanks to the Switch Axe being the coolest weapon in video games

I'm glad you got it to click because that's such a great, one of a kind series once you figure out how to play it!
I remember it taking some effort for me too since I got MGS1 a bit too young, but putting it on easy and doing a whole bunch of trial and error worked out and made me a huge fan

I'm glad to see a good video about second chances because your current self likely has different tastes than your past self and it's so important to re-evaluate that!
I hated Shenmue at first, now it's one of my favorites
Kid me didn't like Katamari (I was a weird kid!), now it's a comfort series

As far as bringing Mega Man into other genres goes... Mega Man X as an RPG is definitely an unusual one.

The site has come a really long way and I'm always impressed by the obscure stuff that gets achievements, but yeah there's definitely more work to be done past the NES, especially with Sega stuff like the 32X and Saturn
I'd like to see more PC Engine CD stuff as well

I gotta try Atlantis no Nazo more, it's such a fascinating game but yeah I imagine it's tough to finish! I'll have to check out those runs, warp tricks sound like they'd be really nice to have in a game like this lol

Getting the highest tier of the bundle costs as much as one of the games does by itself on Steam, which is the best deal I've ever seen for them!
I think I may give it a shot because I do wanna try more visual novels and it's hard to imagine a better deal ever happening
