Remember when talking about overturning Roe was a Democratic scare tactic because it'd never actually happen? Because the justices assured everyone it was settled law? Because no Republican would actually push for that because then they'd lose the wedge-issue?

And now "they could have codified Roe at any time!" because the same SCOTUS that overturned their own supreme law of the land precedent would never have struck down a statutory right to abortion in the same breath. Meanwhile ERA never had close to enough support and it didn't even mention abortion.

Sadly, they've shown themselves to be very good at creating new wedge issues and the manufactured moral panics to fuel them. They've probably already started drafting the next one for whenever scapegoating trans people finally loses its punch.
