We should be shaming govt for not providing more support to those who can’t access cool temps and for not subsidizing research to make more environmentally friendly air conditioning. 350 people die from heat exposure in NYC every year. Turn on your fucking air conditioner.

I understand the desire to save the world. But humanity's survival isn't your holy crusade, bro. And I refuse to sacrifice the weakest among us in the name of the future of humanity. What are we as a society if we don't protect the vulnerable? I'd rather burn than live in Jackson's The Lottery.

My in-laws have the money to get AC installed and my MIL gets physically ill on hot days but they refuse to do it because they see it as a weakness. Infuriating.

I imagine a lot of it has to do with electricity bills…

When someone in Germany turns on their a/c, there's a greater than 50% chance it's running on renewable electricity. We can have that here. A/C doesn't have to pump more carbon into the air, if gov't & industry make progress (they are, but giddyap it needs to be sooner).

It's not enough and we have to do more from a public policy standpoint. It's good to remind folks that there are nonprofits that will either give or loan window AC units to vulnerable households, please seek them out!

I’m very heat intolerant. I don’t live in US but I have a wheelable AC. It helps to run it a few times a day at its warmest to at least survive. Generally though we’re utmost unprepared to deal with extreme heat.

Meanwhile you know the empty malls got AC on for sure.

offices set at like 64 degrees annoy me. imo ac is only wasteful if it’s set really low to compensate for dressing inappropriately. (i’m also a weirdo who prefers to need a sweater and slippers indoors in winter.)
