the beauty of fanfic often isn't that it is Good, but that the author devoted their time to the pleasure of creating. being able to create for pleasure's sake alone is hostile to the Machine, which wants us to believe that an artist has to be An Artist, for easier financialised consumption.

when I get this way, and start worrying that riffing and using jumping off points is Bad, I remind myself "no one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see." our perspective is what makes words and shapes into art, no one else can riff or retort or be original in the same way as me.

AND if you carry that metaphor of gestalt consciousness, what then do we read from Pacific Rim? two pilots, literally experiencing a gestalt consciousness, inside a giant humanoid body, BUT also having to literally move their arms and legs to effect the same action in the suit. incredible.

a gestalt is formed there, in the bleed between self and the other of the suit. which is why things like iron man and warframe add a personification of the suits operating systems a dual consciousness in a single body

but in a battle suit, with the pilots arms and legs inside the suits arms and legs, there's a palpable sense that the pilot and the suit are the same entity, there is unity, proprioception, I i.e. how we somatically experience our body

I love battlesuits in mech fiction, as opposed to much bigger mechs. that's always been the scale I find most interesting aesthetically. it's also a slightly different somatic metaphor to a mech scale too.
