For a different character, in a different book series, I did some research into dementia and memory loss, and it was pretty fascinating. It never came up in the story itself, but in the real world ~1 in 6 cases of mild cognitive impairment progress to full dementia.

I am truly being chaotic here, answering out of order.
I have no horror WIP on the table right now, I know! I know. I'm mostly ghost writing.
But I have two to get on with in hopefully a couple of months. Both arthouse.
1. Why am I alone here?
2. The sky bleeds yellow. We die

Eh not all the time: not recently, although some is automated for Instagram. I've been that busy with work stuff, and moving. But this is my home. And horror.

There were whispers about it now, about women with ripped clothes and tearstained faces, of women who went off with soldiers and got drugged with tainted cigarettes.
The hunting cats were everywhere, riding the bombs, biting the buildings, making women cry.

This is her voice, not mine. I still maintain she was a ghost who wanted to tell her story.
And when it was dark, and everyone was asleep, Emily indulged in her darkest thoughts. She wished that the bombs would bite and tear the hunting cats, who stalked the streets at night.

I remember when Emily was talking about what she called the hunting cats, living in 1940s London, and her words were simple but strong. She linked it all up in her head, and while her process was different to ours, it made sense. And it was poignant. I cried a lot writing Emily.

Silence breeds creativity. Words. Soul.
When Brendan came to me, fully formed, he told me he was deaf. I read, I listened, I learned.
And his first words on the page were, I am the silence. His last were, I was the silence. Now I am the song.
And it still stays with me. He was a powerful voice.

I did a lot of research for Black Cat in general, but also for Brandon: I listened to a lot of articles, interviews, talks by deaf people, I hired a sensitivity reader.
I learned that for many/most, deafness is not a lack. It's more akin to my aphantasia in some ways.

getting back in late.

It would be a toss up between Brandon who is deaf, or Emily who is autistic.
I love them both. I would say that for Brandon, his disability was what broke the mould for him, and helped him with the bookshop: for Emily, it fuelled her sense of justice.

Alrighty this is back from the beta readers, and is ready for ARCs.
Do you want to read a dark, Wickerman inspired, British folk horror? It's not out till July 21, there's tons of time, and I don't care if you 1 star me. Feel free to typo hunt if you like that sort of thing. Or not.

I'm a fanfic writer at heart, so adapting Gatsby is perfect. I'm going to do a 20s cosy horror rom-com soon, so that will get me back in the era!

I do like P&P. Very satirical. Not at all romantic, imho. I've got to get another Gatsby for a read through. I need to make it fit!

Ahahaha. My current WIP has Wicker Man vibes. It's amazing - but a little dark even for me!

Do zombies drink? I wouldn't be me without pink wine and coffee. It could be that. Otherwise, eh, much the same. HA
