Similar to Hochul bungling congestion pricing or Adams messing up the libraries. It doesn’t read to regular people like their betters are making tough choices, it just makes them look stupid and turn political conversation to “these people are panicking about their own policy at the last minute.”

Democrats have yet to learn what Republicans have known for decades: dig in your heels & unify party line no matter what. They're all behind rapist/convicted felon; our guy had one bad night aside from a successful administration, FFS. Will Roger's line was amusing but today is infuriatingly true.

I don't think that could have been avoided. Not even the DNC could flip their gaslighting from "Joe's gonna crush!" to "Joe's total shitting of the bed doesn't matter" quickly enough to prevent a brief window of normal thinking.
