The prophecy about balancing the force is so poorly thought out. Cause yes the force it out of balance at the start of episode 1, the light side was way up, needed a little dark side to balance it out.

Prophecy is almost always a lazy excuse for a plot. Notice that stories using a prophecy plot device almost never answer the questions of WHO made the prophecy and WHY the characters should believe in it.
