The other thing I appreciated about them was how (unlike most "serious" critics then), they didn't automatically turn their noses up at anything that wasn't "serious filum." But they also helped me appreciate those serious filums that deserved appreciation.

Watching the old, old Siskel/Ebert shows on YouTube (like late '70s/early '80s era, when I originally started watching them) and man I miss those guys. Taught little kid me how to engage with material and think about why I liked or didn't like it, rather than just have knee-jerk reactions.

I've always been curious about what influenced Ditko's Dr Strange visuals in general. With a lot of comics guys you're not surprised they immersed themselves in readings of magjicks and arcane whatnots while using mind altering substances. Ditko, to put it mildly, doesn't seem the type.

One of my favorite "The past is a foreign country" bits is how much of the world didn't know things like what color Batman's costume is suppose d to be or what colors the uniforms on star Trek were. B/c they only appeared in black and white comics and many countries didn't broadcast TV in color yet.

I think WWW is a happy ending for the spider story, as it's one of the few things that actually works for the concept. Miguelito Loveless definitely would have had a giant mechanical spider on the 60s show if it had been feasible at the time.
