I can’t remember if low fine punishment was a problem of law or a problem of enforcement. But what I took from it is scam callers know they’ll be caught at a very low rate and their ill gotten gains will far out match their fines, so just keep going.

There was a story years ago 15-16ish that confirmed it’s a small number of people. One of the points in the article that cleanup was not a problem of identifying but punishments were not enough. Scammers could pay the fine, shut down that scam company and start a new one at little cost.

I am very strongly of the view that Chicago should start publicly declaring it will hire undocumented workers to do city work and will send the proper withholdings to the feds. If R’s can do stunts on the basis of “our immigration system is broken”, D’s should too, but with jobs and housing.

I think about this a lot (really too much to be honest) but should we consider middle aged the middle range of your life expectancy (all years) or the middle range of your adult years given life expectancy x. I naturally go to the former but it feels like most people do the latter.

I’ll never forget PrEP initially being rejected among the gays because it was seen as the slut pill. Now, basically everyone is taking it and transmission amongst gay men who don’t do intravenous drugs is so low. I’ve heard, but never checked, that straights have higher infection rates now.

Exactly. It’s never the reason I do it, but there’s just a high correlation between people I decide to block and then finding that emoji in their bio.

Which side do your prefer World or Great Lakes? World can be a tad more fun just because it’s a little easier to accomplish your goals, but Lakes forces you to make better decisions. I’m really torn.
