This story really gets to me. A Florida school board banned the book "Ban This Book" because it criticizes book banning. Obviously, this is a shameful attempt to combat accountability, but their reasoning is worse:

"the school board is the final authority for our citizens. The title itself and the theme challenges our authority." It is explicitly an attempt by elected officials to prevent criticism of their actions, fundamentally attacking the underpinnings of democracy.
