To be fair, I threatened to shoot this dog many times. Especially when he was a puppy and had chewed up someone’s shoes, yet again. But training bird dogs teaches you as much about yourself as about dogs. And if you’re not ready for one, don’t commit to one.

Possibly true of any dog or animal. But also, mostly we don't _need_ companion animals anymore, we have 'em because we enjoy practicing patience and compassion, having an easy place to exercise being our best selves. It says something when one chooses not to do that.
