The way in which the Park Cities — which sit right in the damn middle of the city of Dallas — get away with their own taxation, police force, schools, etc. used to be so maddening to me when living there. And everyone just considered it fine!

A crazy thing that I cannot explain to anyone outside of America is that my oldest kid’s Little League playoff game was postponed tonight because a gunfight broke out nearby during warmups and this probably isn’t even going to make the local news. (All the kids on both teams are okay.)

We have Malinois rescue that is incredibly biddable — all she ever needs is a beep or vibration. But Bear (my Brittany) is incredibly strong-willed and sometimes needs a buzz to refocus him. That drive makes him amazing in the field, of course.

I just spent a week in Saudi Arabia and boy … there were too many fascinating things I noticed to catalogue here. But one thing I noticed was how many Saudis were closely following the campus protests here in the United States.

To be fair, I threatened to shoot this dog many times. Especially when he was a puppy and had chewed up someone’s shoes, yet again. But training bird dogs teaches you as much about yourself as about dogs. And if you’re not ready for one, don’t commit to one.

The crisis in Gaza has revealed, among other things, that many Americans have no idea what is and is not protected speech. And also that many believe there should not be any consequences for civil disobedience, which makes me think a lot of folks haven’t read up on civil disobedience either.
