Non disabled people reckon wheelchair users dream of being able to walk but my actual dream is not to have to endure intrusive pat downs every time I go through airport security and being able to stay in my wheelchair on the plane. One day. š

A friend was told by their OT who is leaving that there is a hiring freeze, so she is not sure how people will get new wheelchairs at this point. She just said that hopefully my friend (and presumably others) ādoesnāt need anything for awhileā. There is a lot resting on āhopefullyā.

Yes I love Oikos! I wish they still did takeaway, though I live so close I wonder if they wouldnāt mind boxing things up. They were lovely to me on Tuesday after the car incident, let me come in and wait for the cops in the warmth.

Yes, I have catapulted myself out of it a few times accidentally, but not been hit. Amazingly never been significantly injured (touch wood). It has a seatbelt but I donāt wear it because I reckon being strapped into it and having it crush me would be worse than falling out. The things we plan forā¦

Yes I really appreciate wheelchair usersā solidarity on this one. When you are on the ground out of the chair, and you know thereās absolutely nothing you can do til someone comes to help, thereās no describing that feeling. I called a w/c user friend who has been hit twice. FFS.

Thatās absolutely true. I considered lodging a claim with ACC but after two minutes of looking at their ridiculous criteria about when they cover mental injury, gave up on the idea. So no consequences for her and no support for me. Fucking ridiculous all round.

And itās not that I want her to be punished with a custodial sentence but she should at least be made to take a safe driving course. Cars are so normalised people seem to forget that they are huge machines that can cause a lot of harm.

They said because Iām not injured she will get a ticket but that would be the end of their involvement. I donāt understand why careless driving relies on physical injury. What about the mental injury she has caused me in feeling unsafe getting to and from my house!

That crossing is how I get to and from the bus stop every day. I have no other option in getting around my neighbourhood and I and other people should be able to trust a pedestrian crossing is safe. She had no excuse - it is well-lit and the other car had stopped - she just didnāt look.

PSA to everyone that drives: please bloody slow down and look for pedestrians at crossings! I got hit crossing one yesterday, and knocked out of my chair onto the road. Very luckily I am uninjured and her car suffered more damage than my chair. Very thankful for its protection on impact.

One of the most frustrating, grief-inducing parts of having an adventurous personality as a wheelchair user is how āadventureā has to be defined. Itās trying to get out of town for the day using public transport rather than anything exhilarating. Inaccessibility is SO fucking boring. š
