If a cop is asking you questions I guarantee you that in that moment, they feel they are smarter than you, no matter how obviously smarter you may be. That's why they get so upset when you say, "I don't answer questions," (as is your right) to them.

They know there is an intelligent population that influences the power structure that runs the departments. But, definitely, they have utter scorn for every citizen they confront, unless that citizen is very rich.
