Also, if you’re going to let them on the road why not require big flashing fucking lights that say “a human is not in control of this hunk of metal”

It's a frikking beta version. If a beta version of my web app is buggy - it's just an annoyance. Buggy FSD kills people.

The tech certainly isn't ready, but neither are people who drive cars (lest we forget 42,795 people died from motor vehicle crashes last year alone) Idc what tech it has, cars are the problem. The US needs better transit networks so that there are fewer drivers

Cars? Or autopilot? My guess is that autopilot, even this version that is not great, is much safer than most meatbags behind the wheel.

It’s amazing how Musk’s reputation — and he’s a moron, there is no doubt — remains somehow reasonably intact.

Autopilot is different from Full Self Driving. Maintains lane, speed and distance from cars in front. Very similar to tech from most major dealers. I wonder how the accident rates compare.

44,000 car related deaths last year. As much as I want to point at telsa, they are hardly a drop in the bucket. No excuse for beta testing their autopilot on our roads.. I'm just on the "fuck all cars" team

Before I make a judgement, I notice the total cars sold or on the road is missing. The writer seems to be cherry picking information and displaying it to scare people.

I have a friend who was involved in an accident like this and did not have autopilot engaged. Brakes unresponsive. Car did whatever tf it wanted. Tesla gaslit them.

Every time I see something about self driving cars I think about this art piece from 2017. techcrunch.com/2017/03/17/laying-a-trap-for-self-driving-cars/
(but yes I agree, its wild they allow this stuff on the road at all)

I still want to know what all the people who plan to use FSD will be doing in their cars while it's on. Or maybe I don't want to know.
