Some cooling was expected due to the end of El Niño conditions in the tropical pacific. Hopefully the temperature will drop further toward the normal range until august. If SST stay up near 2023 levels even with La Niña going on, we have well and truly arrived on an alien planet. 🧪

Eisbären, Lemminge und Klimawandel. Mehr als 30 Jahre gibt es das Karupelv Valley Project in Grönland. Aktuell sind die Wissenschaftler wieder dort und posten regelmäßig auf Facebook, ein Blick lohnt sich!

Wetterereignisse werden immer häufiger größer als das, wofür bestehende Infrastruktur und Landnutzung ausgelegt ist.
Da müsste man sich halt dran anpassen.

#Extremwetter gefährdet die Gesundheit - natürlich einerseits direkt, zum Beispiel wenn man bei Sturm einen Ast auf den Kopf kriegt.

Aber es gibt auch subtilere, indirekte Effekte: Extremereignisse lösen so genannte Risikokaskaden aus.

Nature can be rather disturbing at times, but amazing too!

Here are a couple of examples of entomopathogenic fungi I've seen across New Zealand - that's fungi which infect and kill invertebrates (yep, 'The Last of Us' style).

Can you tell what the unfortunate hosts were?

So it seems that several states detected a significant number of #Covid cases in people returning from #Hajj. This is not surprising, but it serves as a reminder that mass events promote infectious disease. This will be true for the Euros as well.

Waldbrände: It's complicated.

Mit #Klimawandel und #Extremwetter nehmen auch Waldbrände zu. Aber nicht alle Wälder brennen gleich schlimm, und nicht jeder Waldbrand ist eine Katastrophe.

Wie können Wälder aussehen, die Feuer überstehen oder stoppen? Oder von ihm gar profitieren?
