As someone with 100% Syrian ancestry, I find it really amusing when white people accuse me of being pro-Zionism because I have nuanced views on the State of Israel.

Yup, up until then, it was completely normal for immigrants to receive citizenship papers when they disembarked.

I consider myself fairly leftist (probably not as much as many people on BlueSky) but I have never adhered to campism (i.e., everything the US/West/Israel does is inherently "bad"). It's definitely been difficult to stick to a cohesive set of thoughts on the State of Israel as a whole.

Some elements of the Left have been at least sympathetic to various strands of Zionism (e.g., the kibbutzim) and/or at least tolerated the idea of the State of Israel as long as there was an effort to fully integrate Arabs, etc., in the political process.

The most obvious way this will end is with SCOTUS saying Congress forgot to statutorily execute the Insurrection Clause.

In that case you have to point out that the fascist always lies. They lie to get power. And relinquishing the power the middle class has to the fascist will be the middle class's undoing.

I wouldn't necessarily call them rich, though (my definition of "rich" is "doesn't need to worry about money"). They're upper middle-class folks: comfortably well-off but one financial calamity away from making hard decisions. That fear drives them to reactionary politics.

The comfortable middle-class consists of many people who are terrified of losing their privileges and can easily be scare-mongered into supporting fascists who promise to protect those privileges.

The landed gentry / petty bourgeois class historically includes some of the most reactionary people in society who believe their privileges and comforts are precarious and act accordingly.

Gee, I wonder why Lululemon avoids that enormous swath of Los Angeles County from downtown LA to Long Beach / San Pedro, one of the densest areas in the country?

There is no scenario, absolutely none, where Trump will "accept" a loss at the ballot box; and most of the GOP will go along with whatever action he demands to nullify that loss. He should be disqualified now when his power is undoubtedly far weaker than it will be in November.

That a democratic republic can't have mechanisms in place to prevent someone who attempted to use the power of the presidency to nullify an election he lost from appearing on the ballot is nuts.

The rise of the undoubtedly-genocidal Khmer Rouge was facilitated by a *completely secret* US war in Cambodia; you could have been a "good" leftist to point these things out rather than defending Khmer Rouge for being (nominally) communist.

And he said "How does it feel to know you worked so hard and finished at the top of our class but I'm the one going to Harvard?"
