I mean, no one expected it to remain fully intact after being rammed but I think it's how easily and extensively it came apart is thd problem.

Actually it seems like a textbook truss failure. The members are intended to withstand forces acting inline, be it tension or compression, and aren't meant to withstand pivoting. It's kind of like a chain: each link can withstand a lot of tension, but the chain can easily be rolled up.
