when the game came out, one of the promises in the shareholder document was the notion that it would consist of limited, temporary releases and seasonal things. AoS had to course correct for a while but it's on that train again

as a complete aside, I think your pet wargame doesn't appeal as strongly to the masses as Warhammer does because your game doesn't have monastic orders of men sacrificing their humanity for a holy war, or sisters of battle, or bretonnians, or whichever faction's tragedy speaks to you the hardest

This sort of behavior fascinates me. We measure goodness of character essentially by performative sacrifice. We prefer abusers die in a redemptive moment of flameout than by any kind of re-education and constant drive to become better and do better. Yoko Ono isn't performing for you.

Religion is replete with this. Monastic living. Oaths. Monogamous marriage itself is a sacrifice of not fucking everything in sight and if you fail to perform you are sinful (but especially if you're a woman.) And if you fail to perform forgiveness (as a woman) you are shunned. But it's everywhere.

it doesn't matter that WMDs didn't exist, it doesn't matter iraq wasn't an instigator, a ritual was performed and it appeased the souls of millions of Americans. Religious ritual sacrifice behavior is built into the core axioms of many people's beliefs. Take leftism, for example.

sacrifice, sacrifice... if you were around for 9/11, the word itself is burned into you. Not by the events, but by the propaganda and media about it. We must all sacrifice to be cleansed of the sin. We must purify through war and sacrifice. Exactly what the US did. And it worked for many people.
