Oldham was entirely managing the Stones' image in the early days in a way we'd associate with boy bands: the marketing of them as the bad boy counterparts to the clean cut Beatles, emphasizing Jagger over Jones, firing Stewart because he didn't fit the image, &c.

right, oldham’s book makes a pretty good case for the stones having been, in at least some ways, a boy band up until they cut him loose, but in a lot of ways, the term doesn’t really fit, either
