On a different note... Are you watching Da Beauty League hockey games this summer? They will have a women's game and 2 men's games every Wednesday starting next week and ending the last week of August.

Yep. My bald eagle's idea of displaying its grandeur as America's national bird - sitting in a football stadium parking lot. 🙄
In all fairness to the eagle, a pond and a river are nearby.🪶

Sure thing. Glad I could help. It's a very difficult issue with a lot of moving parts that aren't exactly conducive to being summarized in short posts.

Sometimes people forget, or don't realize, that the USFS is part of the Dept. of Agriculture, not the Dept. of Interior which has a more environmentally-focused mission.

The USFS has had some "interesting" positions on logging in the past....many of them not good for the protection of old growth forests - including especially timber sales. They're currently seeking public comment on draft guidance for old growth management on national forests.

Will hunting delay demise of the spotted owls? Yes.
But will it stop it? No.
Hunting barred owls MAY be partial answer to the problem, but there has to be more to the plan than that.

Not an ornithologist, but am a biologist/ecologist. Carrying capacity: A population rises to an area's carrying capacity, i.e, as long as there are sufficient resources available, barred owls will continue moving in.

For fair food, my favorite in Muncie area is Mooreland Free Fair in August. Fair Board serves up fried tenderloins and the Mooreland Friends Church serves some really delicious ham and beans & cornbread at the fair too.
Family's from Modoc (yeah, nobody's ever heard of it if they're not from IN). 😂

Maybe you need to make a visit to Ball State University in Muncie? If not, I'd try to find some pretext for one. 😂 Gaston is a short drive from there.

Best fried pork tenderloin sandwiches are at a BP gas station in Gaston, IN. You can drive right around the corner (approximately 5 miles) to Matthews, IN to a covered bridge park and enjoy nature and a great mural.

Those are gorgeous, Heather. I've seen large patches of lady slippers here (and they're beautiful), but they're not the showy type. I'm going to have to take a quick trip to NC or TN (the southern end of their range closest to me) to see if I can find some.

You can always ask them if they are tied to a donor-advised fund or other 501(c)(3) organization and give them a donation. (They're not a 501(c)(3), but instead a 501(c)(8) as a fraternal benefit organization, and donations are not tax deductible.)
