Georgia transplant. Mostly socialist. Just a very normal user of a very normal site.
I mean, given the breadth of immunity AND exclusion of official acts from evidence, idk about "no chance" - the NY courts may say harmless error for anything that was admitted that's even borderline official conduct, but I struggle to see this SCOTUS letting him go to the pokey at the end of the day

I love sports; I'm a NCAAF fan despite all the baggage it has and think there are few better ways to spend a summer evening than at a ballpark with beer in hand. But my god the damage that Sports Brain has done to portions of our society.

Sure, but we did see what we saw, and at an event where the entire point was to show that he was the sober, competent guy with a firm hand on the tiller as opposed to the unhinged lunatic across the stage. It's not great!

What the GOP has done is made clear that not only do the Dems have to overcome a 2-3 point disadvantage baked into the EC under current demography, but also have to win by a sufficient margin that a combo of enterprising AGs and leges in purplish states can't ratfuck the outcome by themselves

Right - there needed to be about a one-year runway on this; five months deprives the primaries of any meaning, and leaves the new nominee (presumptively Harris) with much less time to sell the electorate. But the alternative now is a visibly enfeebled octogenarian. This sucks.

Same - thought they'd delay as much as possible (✅), but eventually give no or very limited immunity (❌), with the understanding that there'd never be a trial before November, and they'd done their duty to clear the way for Trump to win again. Turns out I wasn't nearly jaundiced enough about them!

It's an extreme hypo, but if Trump identifies a particularly MAGA junior officer and makes that guy his body-man; what stops him from keeping that guy and a signed blank-dated pardon for murder in the Oval (no state law there!), and ordering Lt. Yes-man to shoot anyone who refuses Trump's orders?

I feel like we were locked into either Biden or intra-party circular firing squad when he didn't step down after, say, the mid-terms. Just from a strictly realpolitik POV, he's the incumbent president, he'd be the nominee even if he were a drooling vegetable, why are we even having this discussion

One thing that annoys me about the Democratic consultant class is how they act like they're brass-knuckle streetfighters and yet don't have the stones to run nonstop ads about Trump's extensive connections to Jeffrey Epstein. It's all true! It's documented! There are photos!

I was thinking; cite that clause to reject Marbury v. Madison, explain that you believe Dobbs to be a wrong interpretation of the constitution, and instruct Garland accordingly to have fed LEOs arrest/use appropriate force w/r/t any state officials who impede any person's right to an abortion. LFG.

Yep. I'm 42. The first election I was old enough to vote in was decided by 5 Supreme Court Justices leaping in to stop a state recount, admitting their legal analysis was a one-off, then never analyzing any future case the same way.
And it will be like this until I die.
