When folks talk about the US devolving into lawlessness if the Democrats match Republican strategies, I don't know how to take that seriously. If you're law-abiding and someone else isn't, that won't stop them from criminally victimizing you. Lawful behavior is no safeguard from lawless behavior.

It seems the two classes of people most likely to get into decision making positions are either the maximally ruthless ones, or the ones who learned what it means to be a good person in kindergarten and followed orders thereafter without ever adding any nuance to those values.

They aren't even doing legal things they could be. I keep going back to ICE ignoring Biden's executive order on border enforcement in the first days of his administration. Instead of removing the (recess-appointed) head of ICE, Biden just gave in That would have been uncontroversially in his power
