Oh man I have thoughts about that story about kids bullying their teachers. But the short version is - straight line to the model theyβve been getting from adults in charge all around them + larger distain for education/educators

It seems the two classes of people most likely to get into decision making positions are either the maximally ruthless ones, or the ones who learned what it means to be a good person in kindergarten and followed orders thereafter without ever adding any nuance to those values.

I think it's really rare for anyone without this kind of ambition to become a national politician.

Yeah, like, ragging on the president and expecting him to be terrible is the norm. In general people vote for who they think is terrible in the least-harmful way. Obama excitement was an exception.

Ultimately my comments and Matt's in this thread boil down the difference in strategy - choose the right person vs choose the right message and stick with it as most important. I hope whichever comes out on top is right. π€·π»ββοΈ

It was an issue to me also - Biden was low on my list. But I assumed at least that everyone was on the same page that the passage of time is inexorable, and it's frustrating to see it be a surprise to party insiders who closed ranks around Biden til now.

But I also do think of Biden steps out of the race, the one and only hope to recover from him doing that is to get fully behind Harris by resigning from office as well.

I think the general message discipline matters more than who's the candidate. If everyone in a political role who's currently raising the pressure for Biden to resign instead was publicly hammering on Trump's much greater weaknesses, it would be a lot more productive.

Primary elections are how these things are decided and this panic is just way way too late.

About a year before an election is a much better time for this question to be raised, but we committed to it not being an issue a long time ago.

The normal way, by hammering on his opponents much worse weaknesses relentlessly. INCLUDING MOST IMPORTANTLY his opponent's obvious cognitive and health challenges.

*If* Biden caves and drops out against what everyone has said is best for years and in line with what the same damn people are demanding now, he must also resign from office. Both or neither are absolutely the only ways.

I think there's some genuine ratfucking as always, and a lot of We Must Do Something anxiety manifesting at realizing way too late how bad Trump can be in a 6-3 world.

You can also just put `cooked.wiki/` infront of the URL!
Almost all recipe sites publish the bare bones recipe in a machine-readable format for scrapers. Thatβs how Paprika etc get the data these days. Cooked.wiki is a web based & free variant.

It seemed like it was gonna be worth doing for awhile! But PV manufacturing scaled up and matured and the price crashed, and it stopped making any sense at all in comparison.

Did you mean consensus?
'Cause like, I didn't consent to this reality, but that's beside the point now.

It is interesting that one of the things fascism destroys, deliberately, is the idea of a consensual reality.
It purposely isolates its opponents into their own separate reality tunnels, bubbles, each fighting with each other while the boot crushes them.

It's lost to me now who made this joke years ago, but someone pointed out if we add more states we should plan to get up to 53. "One nation, indivisible."

I feel like I am losing my mind being told for years that it's fine and good to have an octogenarian running for president, and now it's July 2024 and suddenly no we gotta risk everything America stands for because an 80 year old is acting like he's 80 years old.

all the money is in engagement growth (of any kind) at impossible-to-manage scale
there's no money to be made in protecting consumers, the historical record, journalism, education, or a shared collective reality
that's a wonderful environment for conspiratorial authoritarianism to thrive
