That’s what always happens in these kinds of elections. Relatively moderate people in swingy seats who have to appeal to everyone lose their seats while the more extreme people in very safe seats (who only have to worry about their own flanks) get reelected. See the same in the US.

Although the primary system here is particularly poisonous given that it delivers up the most extreme candidate much of the time and most of the seats aren’t really in play ever. So the primary voters get to choose the rep and the opinions of moderates essentially don’t matter.
